Annotation One

Topic: Academic Adjustment

Goal Statement: To make a resource that my students can use to find information about many different opportunities such as minors in disciplines such as business, biology, chemistry, French, as well as MBA, studying abroad.  It will include all the requirements for them.

Activities / Resources: Many of my students were asking about different majors and minors they can pursue along with pharmacy.  This resource will list out the requirements for different majors and minors the students requested so that all the information is in one place.  It will also have a study abroad checklist so that students can be organized in planning a study abroad experience.

Evidence:  I will include the packet I make for them.

The evidence I am presenting for this activity is the actual resource I created for my students.  It lists many requirements for minors and other options the students can pursue.  It is a concise word document they now have to use as a guide.

Freshman pharmacy students from day one are bombarded with all the different programs they can partake in here at URI in concurrence with the pharmacy program but lack some direction.  On the other hand some students are unaware of the opportunities they have have such as double major, minor, or study abroad.  Many of the students in my class fell under one of these two categories when I asked them of their knowledge of these facts.  I personally as a freshman lacked the full knowledge of these programs.

What I did was polled the students and asked them which of these programs they were interested in, this was helpful because I could take this information and put it in to one concise word document listing the requirements of some minors and majors that the students could use, as well as links to resources so they can find more information.  I found useful requirements for biology, business (as well as a link for MBA), French, the honors program and leadership studies.  Many students become involved in these activities and this could help them pursue these programs.  Study abroad is another popular topic the students wondered about.  With this, I invited five older pharmacy students who studied abroad and they shared their abroad experiences.  They also shared hints and tips on making study abroad work in the rigorous pharmacy curriculum.  I included these tips in the resources as well.

Through this activity I myself learned more about the options students have even within the pharmacy program.  This was certainly a resource I would have utilized  when I was a URI 101 student.  I also learned about each individual student and what their goals were here at URI.  Hearing their feed back on the handout enlightened me on what each individual wanted to pursue.  This helped me throughout the semester in aiding me to help each student move toward their specific goals.  It tied well into class as well because with this in mind I could more effectively help them register for classes for the spring semester.

I included this evidence because it shows the work I put in this resource for the students as well as it is the best way to exemplify how the resource helped the students.
